From Proof of Concept to Platform Strategy: Inside Consilio and Everlaw’s 10-Year Partnership
by Gina Jurva
Kamaka Martin has spent 22 years in ediscovery, long enough to know what actually works versus what's just hype.
As Senior Vice President of Managed Services at Consilio, she leads teams that provide discovery services across the full Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM), from forensics to flex talent to managed review. Consilio is a legal enterprise firm that supports clients through the entire lifecycle of engagement, which means Martin has a front-row seat to what actually works in practice versus what looks good in a demo.

Her relationship with Everlaw goes back over a decade, predating Consilio's acquisition of organizations that had used the platform for years. That history matters because the partnership has been tested on everything from 100-document investigations to 10-million-record pharmaceutical cases.
"The relationship that we have with Everlaw is one that has existed for over 10 years," Martin said. "We have deep expertise within the organization."
What Makes the Partnership Work
Martin points to two key strengths: "Everlaw's generative AI applications, as well as their reputation in the industry for being a simple, easy, relatable application that is scalable are the pillars that really drive this partnership because clients tend to see the value quickly.”
The scalability isn't marketing speak. Martin's teams have deployed Everlaw across a striking range of matters, from smaller labor and employment cases to massive pharmaceutical investigations, from quick-turn insurance claims to complex litigation.
"We're talking from as small as 100 documents to 10 million records, and that speaks about the scalability of Everlaw and ease of use," Martin said.
What makes the partnership effective is not just the technology, it’s also about how Consilio operationalizes it for customers. “Our role is to position the platform whether it’s Consilio’s enterprise application Aurora or Everlaw, based on what best fits the client’s workflow, data profile, and internal capabilities so adoption is not just successful but that it is actually sustainable,” Martin said.
The Adoption Pattern That Matters
One client story illustrates how the partnership functions in practice. Fennemore Craig, a law firm Consilio has worked with for over a decade, had been using legacy systems. The firm handled numerous engagements and needed to get them off the ground quickly.
Consilio proactively recommended a proof of concept (POC) for Everlaw. Within three months, they'd completed the POC and started on a live engagement.
For Consilio, a proof of concept is not simply about validating features; it’s also about understanding how a platform performs when time sensitive workflows, user interactions, and data conditions are applied simultaneously. That’s what ultimately informs platform strategy because clients need to know how the environment is going to perform when time is of the essence.
"We're talking from as small as 100 documents to 10 million records, and that speaks about the scalability of Everlaw and ease of use."
What Consilio saw with Fennemore reflects a pattern often seen with clients, starting with a targeted POC where "we trained their paralegal team, highlighting the ease of use as well as the scalability, which generated excitement about streamlining their workflows," Martin said. "This approach made it easy for there to be organic firm-wide adoption by creating evangelists within the paralegal team.”
When the people actually using the platform daily become advocates, adoption spreads organically rather than through top-down mandates. Fennemore has now been using Everlaw for nine years through the Consilio partnership.
Why Clients Keep Using It
There's a pattern Martin sees across Consilio's client base: the more familiar people become with Everlaw, the more ways they find to use it.
Consilio leans into optionality and supports multiple platforms across its client base, and each has its strengths depending on the use case. Everlaw tends to resonate particularly well in matters where a Managed Services self-service delivery model is in place and where speed to insight and user adoption are critical.
“We find that once users are familiar with the functionality in Everlaw, whether using Storybuilder, testing out new features with generative AI or Deep Dive, it makes it easier to be creative," she explained. "When you have a strong understanding of an application, you're able to layer your solutions and understand your data faster, and that is in itself a cost savings."
Features That Move Cases Forward
Certain Everlaw features have proven particularly valuable. Storybuilder, which helps attorneys organize facts, prepare and review depositions, and develop their case strategy, has become sought after even by clients who aren’t core Everlaw users.
"This particular application is really helpful for clients who are prepping for deposition, prepping for trial," Martin said. "Being able to organize that information within the application after review is something that typically would require a third-party tool or working outside the platform entirely."
Where AI Adoption Actually Stands
Martin is clear-eyed about where generative AI adoption actually stands versus where the hype suggests it should be.
"Clients today are on the spectrum in terms of use for generative AI," she said. Some are eager to test Everlaw's AI functionality such as summarization, Coding Suggestions, and Deep Dive's natural language querying. Others are slower to adopt.
“We appreciate that GenAI adoption is not uniform given that clients are at very different points on the maturity spectrum. Our role is to meet them where they are and help them apply the technology in a way that’s both practical and defensible.”
This is where the Consilio-Everlaw partnership becomes concrete. When clients want to use AI but lack in-house expertise, Consilio brings technical experts to the table. The goal, Martin explained, is helping teams use GenAI "in the most effective and efficient ways" while ensuring they're comfortable with the approach.
What Changed at Everlaw Summit ‘25
Everlaw’s inclusive, generative AI features at the per-document review are particularly valuable in Martin’s view for a specific reason: it makes the technology approachable.
“We've already started having conversations about how that is a value add because it makes the tool more approachable," Martin said.
The change allows clients to test AI on individual documents during early review to understand timelines and identify key documents before committing to batch-level decisions.
"Once users are familiar with the functionality in Everlaw, whether using Storybuilder, testing out new features with generative AI or Deep Dive, it makes it easier to be creative."
"This will drive use on a smaller scale, but it will also allow for there to be organic use of the application in terms of how customers or clients are simply reviewing documents," Martin explained.
A Partnership That Functions
The Consilio-Everlaw relationship is truly collaborative. They prospect together, with both organizations at the table when identifying new customers. They communicate constantly, and the feedback loop runs both directions.
"We are in a place where we talk very regularly, but one of the things that I appreciate is how early we are working together in the process of identifying customers," Martin said.
When Consilio receives client feedback, they have a direct line to Everlaw. "We have been thought partners over the years," Martin noted, pointing to work with Everlaw's engineering team on automating workflows clients use repeatedly.
After 22 years in ediscovery, Martin has seen enough partnerships to recognize when one actually functions. The decade-plus relationship with Everlaw, tested across hundreds of clients and millions of documents, has proven itself in practice.
"Yes, we do believe that Everlaw is putting their money where their mouth is," she said. We’ve seen consistent investment in areas that matter to our clients such as usability, performance, and AI-driven workflows and that’s what ultimately sustains a long term partnership.”
