Advancing Access to Justice with $6 Million in Everlaw Technology
by Petra Pasternak
Everlaw is committed to putting its advanced ediscovery technology to work for positive change. Through the Everlaw for Good program – which makes our solution available to mission-driven organizations – we recently hit a major milestone, surpassing $6 million in total donated technology and expanded support for legal and other professionals working to level the playing field for justice.
Launched in 2017, Everlaw for Good has seen 74% year-over-year growth for the last two years. The program is helping nonprofits, legal aid organizations, pro bono teams, journalists, and educators navigate the technical challenge of scouring the mountains of data involved in today’s litigation and investigations.
In the last year alone, the program supported more than 675 active cases across 235 organizations, while donating $2.5 million worth of product. These developments represent a growing need for advanced tools – including AI – that help under-resourced teams get better results for the communities they serve.
According to Everlaw’s recent survey on AI and the justice gap, legal aid organizations are adopting AI at roughly twice the rate of the broader legal profession, and 88% of legal aid professionals say they are optimistic about AI’s potential to help narrow the justice gap. The need is urgent: an estimated 92% of the civil legal problems experienced by low-income Americans receive no or inadequate legal help.
“Mission-driven organizations are increasingly handling complex investigations and litigation with limited resources,” says Joanne Sprague, Head of Everlaw for Good. “Expanding access to powerful, easy-to-use technology helps level the playing field.”
Sprague says that the need for an ediscovery solution that can shine a light into dark corners and sift through complex troves of data is only growing, and Everlaw for Good intends to continue assisting mission-driven organizations in their efforts to make the world a better and more equitable place.
